Distance from Lewisboro, NY to NYC: 58 Miles

Lewisboro, NY, is a town amidst the scenic beauty of Westchester County. The lower Hudson River Valley has been thriving since its founding in the middle of the 18th century.

Lewisboro was born when residents purchased land from the local natives. The first settlers moved into the area around South Salem. The "Town of Salem" was established in 1747. By 1790 the town had shrunk to its present day dimensions as lands were removed for use by other towns.

The name of the community changed to South Salem in 1806. Financier John Lewis requested that the town be given his name, and establish a fund for the town. He promised a rail link to the community, but was apparently unable to accomplish completion of the rail link.

Lewisboro is noted for its elaborate gardens, especially in its public traffic triangles, for precision dry stone walls, and the elaborate mansions that dot the community.

With an estimated population of 12,580, Lewisboro covers 29.1 square miles, including 1.3 square miles of water in seven lakes that cover the area. The town has five hamlets within it, including Cross River, named for a short river that arises near the hamlet; South Salem, Golden's Bridge, Vista and Waccabuc. Truesdale Lake is a neighborhood in South Salem.

The east boundary of the town is on the Connecticut state line, and Interstate-684 is near the west side of the town. The town has a rather unusual shape, roughly like the B-2 bomber. The unusual shape is partly because of "The Oblong" which was created in the settling of boundary disputes between Connecticut and New York.

Public schools in Lewisboro are part of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District. The only high school in the town is the John Jay High School, located in Cross River, NY. It, like all of the schools in Westchester County, provides quality education and it has been ranked as one of the top 200 high schools in the nation by Newsweek Magazine.

The median household income in Lewisboro is $135,746, and the median home value is $724,580. The population density is 451 persons per square mile, and the average household size is 2.89 persons. The median age of Lewisboro residents is 39 years.
